Anna and Adams Timeless Affair | Utah Wedding | Jessica Janae

Anna and Adam’s summer wedding, featured in the 2016 Utah Valley Bride Magazine, was a classy, timeless affair.

Everything little detail of this wedding was perfection.. Anna looks to me like a porcelain doll I would have had on my shelf when I was young. Dainty and perfect. Her style is impeccable! I loved shooting them …

Anna wore an Anne Barge dress with a peter pan collar, paired with red Valentino heels, while the groom wore a classic black tux and a bow tie.

The colors throughout the entire wedding were nothing I’ve ever seen before. I would have never thought to combine them all! They are all Anna’s favorite summer colors: vibrant red and yellow, with blush pink and light blue.

There was vintage furniture scattered outside the capitol where guests could chill and drink lemonade. The wooden lemonade stand was hand-made by Anna’s uncle. I remember this day to be one of the hottest days I have ever shot a wedding. I even had to call my aunt who was nearby to bring me a different shirt cuz I was sweating so bad and was way embarassed haha!! So that Lemonade was a complete lifesaver!

The whole day looked like an18th century vintage picnic outside a massive estate on the english countryside. I can now scratch my Pride and Prejudice wedding off the bucket list! LOVE LOVE LOVEd being a part of your day!

Roslyn and Bill Grand Teton Wedding | Jackson Hole, Wyoming | Whitney

Roslyn and Bill’s wedding was by far my FAVORITE wedding I have shot to date!  Obviously the bride is stunning, the location is incredible, and the decor at the wedding is so unique and amazing, but Roslyn and Bill were so incredibly fun to work with!  Roslyn is one of those people that everyone likes.  You could tell by the way she treated each all her family and guests!  People were drawn to her constantly smiling face and laid back nature.  Bill’s personality was equally as great!  Bill was energetic, fun, and incredibly accepting!  Roslyn and Bill made me and my husband feel like guests at their wedding and not like the hired help :).  The day after the wedding we even got to go on a river rafting trip with Roslyn, Bill and their families!

Luckily Roslyn is a photographer so she made sure we had plenty of time to do photos after the ceremony.  We had the BEST time shooting photos!  I did not even feel as if I was working.  We were just a couple of friends hanging out.  Roslyn also had her close, interior designer, friend do all the decorating at the reception and had NO idea what anything even looked like.  That is some serious trust and perfectly describes Roslyn’s nature.  Don’t miss out on those details shots because the decor was truly like not other wedding I have ever seen before!

This wedding definitely made for an incredible weekend in Jackson Hole!  I hope you enjoy it, because I know I did!

Retro House Fashion Shoot | Salt Lake City | Whitney

Hi everyone!

This is a shoot that I’m definitely excited to post!  Lately I feel as if everyones work in Utah looks THE SAME.  Like, almost exactly the same.  Everyone is copying everyone else and it’s turning into a big, confusing, mess.  Almost all of these photos were shot on film (there are 7 digital shots… can you find them?).  Normally when I shoot film I overexpose, but for this shoot I intentionally exposed the photos to look almost exactly as the scene did in real life, OR underexposed for that muddyish look.  When shooting these photos I really tried to focus on the design aspect of things. These photos are not perfect.  You will notice that a few of them are soft.  The house was very dark and the viewfinder on on my cameras is very hard to see through, so it’s literally a shot in the dark.  I still included the images because there is just something about them.  All of the styling was done by me and much of the stuff the model is wearing is actually vintage.  Here is the story behind the details of this shoot…

A couple of months ago I was on Snapchat (you can follow me whitneybrailsford) and my friend Maggie was posting videos of her grandmas INCREDIBLE house!  I quickly messaged my friend and let her know that I was inspired by the place and wanted to do a shoot.  Luckily Maggie is also an artist so she was all in!   I immediately thought of the model Tiffany when I thought of the look that I wanted to achieve with this shoot.  Tiffany is gorgeous inside and out.  I also brought Vivian Makeup Artist on to do hair and makeup because she is absolutely the only person I would trust for a shoot like this.  She is the perfectionist of all perfectionists and SO talented.  The perfect combo!

Now… about those gorgeous Tintypes… my friend Sylvia deserves her OWN paragraph!  Sylvia is my great friend from college.  The first night I really spent with Sylvia was an all nighter in the darkroom.  Do you even understand what I am saying here?  An ALL NIGHTER IN THE DARKROOM…. we are talking on your feet…all night long.  Things got crazy under that red light that night and bonds were made.  Sylvia and I did a lot of undergrad together as well as traveled through Europe together.  We have a strong bond, Sylvia and I.  Sylvia is so unlike anyone I have ever met.  While traveling through Europe we would often end up sitting apart on long train or plane rides.  I would walk off of the trains having had a really nice nap and Sylvia would walk away with someones life story and contact info.  She has this way of making you feel so comfortable so quickly so you end up telling her all of your greatest joys and challenges.   She is Sylvia.  She owns everything about herself.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, Sylvia shot the photos that have the almost Sepia look to them.  They are called wet plate collodion or tintypes.  Go ahead and google them for a better idea of what they are, but it’s a pretty insane process.  Sylvia has to take a portable dark room as well as HUGE HEAVY BOXES full of chemicals and lights to every shoot she goes to.  Ever seen someone with an accordion camera underneath a black cloth?  Yeah.  That’s her.  Sylvia is an ARTIST.  She loves her art and pursues it no matter the expense.  It’s something I admire about her and it inspires me to be the same. You can find Sylvia’s Work on instagram at @sillverstill… make sure you don’t miss that extra “L” in sillver!

WOW!  Did you make it through that?  I’ll let you look at the photos now haha!  Enjoy!

Sadie Jane Family Session | Salt Lake City | Whitney

Hello everyone!  Long time no posts… from me…. whoops!  For some reason putting together blog posts is a real struggle for me.  I’m a person who hates doing anything I HAVE to do, but DON’T have to do.  You know what I mean?  I would say it’s a big character flaw for me.  I’m also a know it all, but that’s another story for another time.  It feels good to be back on the blog and I have a bunch of other posts I am putting together at the moment before the crazy season begins again.  So watch out for me!

I don’t know if many of you have heard of Simply Sadie Jane, but she is an incredible fitness blogger!  I met Sadie at an Albion Fit fashion show, but it was very brief.  When I really got to know Sadie was during a sweat session at the Albion Fit Soulstice Retreat.  We were paired together in a little HIIT workout so she got to see me fall to my knees during pushups and watch my bad form on my squats thanks to my awkwardly long legs and high center of gravity.  Luckily I was in pretty good shape at that time so I could kind of keep up with someone as amazing as her!  Sadie is everything that you want in a person and blogger…. incredibly down to earth and sarcastic, genuinely nice, realistic, beautiful, and a hot bod that she works HARD for (she lost 80 pounds years ago and has kept it off).

Sadie was nice enough to let me come up with the concept of her shoot.  At the moment I was feeling very inspired by the vibrant colors that Kodak Portra 800 gives off.  So I based the shoot around that.  I had her and her family wear jewel tones and told her to put her husband in tweed.  She hired a stylist and the rest is history.  We had a great time taking these photos…. other than the INSANE amount of wind that made the kids hate life… but other than that…. pretty good ha!  As you can see Sadie is no stranger to the camera and it loves her!  Throughout this shoot I have both color and black and white film.

Enjoy!

– Whitney

Hey guys! This weeks Backstage Pass video is all about Whitney, the other photographer on the Jessica Janae Photography team!!! I really wanted you guys to get to know her a bit more! She graduated from Utah State with a photography degree and just before joining the Jessica Janae team she was shooting photography in LA (the big leagues). I was drawn to her work instantly. She is so talented, and really knows her stuff. She teaches me something every time I’m with her. She’s also a wizard with film photography! She can shoot film at any shoot if you request it and you will not regret it, it always looks flawless. On top of being extremely talented she is also the most hilarious person on earth. She cracks up every client and makes everyone feel relaxed because she’s so chill!

So I also wanted to include one of Whitney’s film photos, just so you guys can see some of her amazing work even though some of you may have already seen it on Instagram! It’s just so unreal I had to post it here also. Seriously go follow her instagram and check out more of her stuff!

Hunter and Mitchell Wedding | Provo, UT | Whitney

This wedding was nothing short of perfect!  Hunter and Mitchell met in high school when they were 15!  They casually dated while in high school.  Things got a little bit more serious in college, and then Hunter waited for Mitchell while he was on his LDS mission.  There is nothing quite like a good high school sweetheart success story!  They absolutely adore each other and each of them thinks they totally scored with the other (the best attitude you can have towards you significant other in my opinion).  Their reception was held in a big open coral that they decorated with the most incredible florals, cakes, photos, lights, and an ice sculpture.  They brought in THE BEST pizza truck (seriously holy cow), and set the tone with a beautiful vintage Rolls Royce at the entrance of the coral.  Every detail perfectly complimented each other and everything from the day went perfectly!  They also left me A TON of time to shoot photos (yay for me)!  Moral of the story, I LOVE Hunter and Mitchell!!

P.S. Notice a few special details (a pin that says cooper and heart sewn in her dress) that have special meaning to the couple.  Hunter’s younger brother Cooper
was in an accident in 2009.  Hunter and Mitchell both wore something close to their heart that represented him. Also notice many of these photos were shot on film!  See if you can tell which.

Koren and Emma Mother Daughter | Salt Lake City, UT | Whitney Kofford

This mother daughter shoot was so much fun and so different than anything I have ever done!  Koren called me and told me she wanted a really specific look for a shoot with her youngest daughter.  Emma is the most beautiful 17 year old you have ever seen and she was SO photogenic, and would you ever believe that Koren has a child that is 30 years old?  She looks amazing!  They both looked so great and I loved their vibe!  They were so natural together and you could tell that Emma totally loved being with her mom.  It’s kind of hard to find that in a 17 year old these days, so that was really awesome!  We shot these photos at Tibble Fork, but it was so busy that I didn’t even use the lake to photograph by.  I had also never actually done a shoot there so it was nice to have my own perspective on things since it is such a highly photographed area.  I loved these two and was so happy I got got to do this awesome shoot with them!
